Flock is a material obtained by cutting textile fibers into very short lengths (typically 0.3–2 mm) and adhering them perpendicularly to a surface to create a velvety coating.
In flock production, fibers such as cotton, nylon, polyester, or viscose are first cut to the desired length, then subjected to dyeing and surface treatments to make them suitable for electrostatic charging. During application, flock fibers are sprayed onto an adhesive-coated surface using an electrostatic field, arranged perpendicularly to the surface, and then fixed through drying and curing.
Application areas include automotive seals and glass run channels, sealing profiles, packaging interiors, jewelry boxes, textile prints, and decorative coatings. This coating is preferred for its ability to reduce friction, dampen sound, provide a soft touch, and enhance aesthetic appearance.
